Up until the turn of the century Merz was essentially a DACH* based company and traded elsewhere through distribution partners. However, the last fifteen years has seen substantial growth.
Merz now employs around 3,000 people in 36 locations around the world, with representation in a further 70 countries through distributor partners.
Global sales now exceed €1.2BN and although memantine is no longer patent protected in Europe, (and therefore in decline through generic competition), the CAGR** of the global business is >10% over the last five years, fuelled by growth of new product launches and new geographies.
The increasing geographic footprint has also seen a reduced reliance on Germany for revenues which now stand at <10% of global turnover. In more recent years the globalisation of Merz has continued, with the mature regions of EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), and North America being supplemented by the fast growing APAC (Asia Pacific) and LatAm (Latin America) regions.
